PACIFICA FAIRWAY WOODS
It always makes for a better day whenever someone walks into my
office and tells me something like, "I'm making one of the best golf clubs
in the world." My routine of writing, editing, A/R and A/P bookkeeping
and whatever else I do in the office is broken up with a challenge, that
being, is the guy on something illegal or is the guy on to something big?
John Re, owner of Pacifica Fairways, brought one of his clubs into my
office and explained its makeup and functionality. One thing John didn't
have to explain was the 3-wood's beauty made so by design and its
unique "mirrored chrome" finish on the sole and face. What a stand-out!
To begin with, to understand a club one must know something about its
maker.... John, 48, hails from Pacifica, thus the name of his
two-year-old golf club company. John's the kind of person who knows
tools inside and outside, who knows how to make things, and who
loves the game of golf, having taken it up "seriously" only two years ago.
There is nothing like passion for golf when making a club, and John's
passion is the fuel which has propelled him into clubmaking.
John calls his new woods Cryo-LCG, a name which utilizes a hardening
process that produces one of the hardest metals in the golf industry.
Cyro LCG is 225% harder than titanium, 175% harder than miraging
steel, and 400% harder than stainless steel on the HRC Hardness
Scale. The harder the clubface, the higher the energy transfer to the ball which,
spring-like, will jump off faster than off the softer metals. In addition, the
hardening process used for Cryo-LCG eliminates the dreaded vibration
at impact which causes miss-hits. According to his tests, the Cryo-LCG gives golfers more distance, as
much as 40 yards further, on their shots. Okay, I've heard that before. So, I took the Cryo-LCG 3-wood with me to play most recently at Rio
Vista Golf Course near Stockton, CA. The results?
Actions do speak louder than words so I'm here to say that I hit the hell
out of the ball with the new Cryo-LCG 3 wood at Rio Vista. Not only
did the ball go far and straight, upon impact with the ball my swing
seemed effortless and collision-less. I let Regional Editor Charley Coppola use it a couple times and, to his
delight, the new club got him on the green in regulation both times again, with a sweet, effortless swing. Though Charley didn't hit the new
3-wood 300 yards off the tee as John Re has many times, Charley is
still a believer. Big name club makers produce fine golf clubs, no doubt about it. But
they certainly don't have a monopoly on manufacturing great clubs. My
experience with the Cryo-LCG 3 wood proves this fact. Cyro-LCG woods are available in 3, 5 and 7 woods, and 250cc
drivers The company's low torque graphite shafts are guaranteed for the life of the club. For those golfers opting for steel, John offers the FM Precision Rifle shaft.
Flexes include regular, stiff, ladies and senior. Clubs are available in only
RH at the present time. Prices range from $159 for the woods,
$179
for the drivers, 9 or 10 degree.
